Abstract

Platyceps saharicus sp. n. is described from northern Africa and the Near East (Sinai to western Jordan). This species is morphologically distinct from P. rhodorachis (Jan) and a yet unassigned taxon of the rhodorachis complex. The latter is sympatric with the Sahara racer in Israel, Jordan, and Palestine.
