Abstract

Based upon a case-study about Parisian medium economic entities in the 19th century, this paper aims to shed light on the question of the elites' multiple institutional involvements. The careers of ca. 500 members of economic institutions are studied using sequence analysis, a method providing a precise description both of the general trends of change in career patterns and of the diversity of individual cases. This method facilitates a study of the making, the evolution and the disintegration of a system of institutions. © Éditions de l'EHESS..
