Abstract

The origin of the Magpie Pica pica sericea in Japan was discussed based on the historical records. There were few convincible records on the ecology of the Magpie, e. g. the distribution, habitat, breeding and feeding habits, etc., before the 16th century, whereas not a few records after the Edo era (the 17th century). Based on the records of the Magpie on the past distribution written on diaries, geographical descriptions and encyclopedias, traditions, and ordinances issued by feudal lords, it is likely that the Magpies were introduced from Korea to the southern coastal areas in Fukuoka and Saga prefectures by the feudal lords around the early 17th century. ‚Í ‚ ¶ ‚ß ‚É ƒJ ƒT ƒT ƒMPica pica‚Í •¢ ŠE "I ‚É ‚Í•L "Í ˆÍ • ¶ ' § Ží ‚Å ‚ ‚è,-k "¼ ‹… ‚É•L ‚-•ª •z ‚µ‚Ä ‚¢ ‚é(Birkhead 1991)•B ‚µ‚© ‚µ,"ú-{ •' "à ‚Å ‚Í•² ‰ê OE §‹ß •Ó ‚É ‚µ‚© • ¶ ' § ‚µ‚È ‚¢ ‚AE ‚¢ ‚¤,‹É ‚ß ‚Ä "Á ˆÙ "I ‚È 'n-• "I •ª •z ‚ð ‚µ‚Ä ‚¢ ‚é•B ‚µ‚© ‚à,•ª •z 'n ˆae "à ‚Å ‚Í ‚«‚í ‚ ‚Ä •‚-§ "x ‚É• ¶ ' § ‚µ‚Ä ‚¢ ‚é;15•`20"Ô ‚¢/•½ •û ƒL ƒ• (•] OEû-¢ "-•\)•B ƒJƒT ƒT ƒM ‚Ì ‰ß ‹Ž ‚Ì•ª •z ˆae ‚ð'm ‚é Ž'-¿ ‚Í"ñ •í ‚É OEÀ ‚ç‚ê ‚Ä ‚¨‚肨‚è,-¾ Ž¡ Žž 'ã ˆÈ •~ ‚ÉOEÀ ‚Á‚Ä ‚à,'n-•
