Abstract
Reviews nine books on Spanish migration to America in the colonial era. Migration during the 16th and 17th centuries reflected the dominance of Castile and the importance of shorter land routes and urban centers. A new pattern emerged in the 18th century, showing the growing significance of maritime provinces and the role of new population pressures in Spain. These various Spanish studies contribute to the growing historiography on these topics.
