Abstract

Thermal reactions of 2-hydroxymethylpyridine (HMP) with [ M ( CO ) 6 ] in air resulted in formation of the oxo-complexes [ M 2 O 6 ( HMP ) 2 ], where M = Mo, 1 , or W, 2 . The tricarbonyl complex [Ru ( CO ) 3 (HMP)], 3 , was obtained from the reaction of [ Ru 3 ( CO ) 12 ] with HMP. In presence of triphenyl phosphine ( PPh 3 ), the reaction of HMP with Ru 3 ( CO ) 12 gave [ Ru ( CO ) 2 ( HMP ) ( PPh 3 ) ], 4 . All the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, IR, and NMR spectroscopy. The thermal properties of the complexes were also investigated by thermogravimetry technique.
