Dall's Porpoise, Phocoenides dalli, is one of the most commonly sighted cetaceans throughout its range in temperate waters of the North Pacific Ocean and surrounding seas. Dall's Porpoises are common both offshore and in deep inshore waters of British Columbia. There appear to be few serious consevation problems in the eastern Pacific at present, although little is known of the behaviour and ecology of this species. Probably the major threat facing this species in Canada is environmental contamination by such substances as organochlorines and heavy metals. Much porpoise managment is suggested.
