Participation, Practice, and Publications: Fifty Years of Information Literacy Research and Activity in Australia

Abstract

2024 marks fifty years since Paul Zurkowski, P. [(1974). The information service environment relationships and priorities. (Related Paper No. 5). National Commission on Libraries and Information Science.] coined the term ‘Information Literacy'. This article aims to document Australia’s vanishing history of information literacy in research and practice. A narrative survey of events, activities and networks is presented followed by an overview of standards, guidelines, policies and influential Australian researchers. The article concludes with a forecast of where information literacy practice and research may progress in the next fifty years.
