Abstract

Based on K. Mizoguchi's fundamental differential equation, solutions to title problem for shell supported at both ends are obtained by using double Fourier transforms; these are however not suitable for explaining singularity at load application point, and are transformed into uniformly converging series set and closed terms representing singularity; it is shown that in vicinity of load cylinder's circumference deforms outward and gives rise to tensile surface stress; results are applicable to rotary kilns which may suffer fatigue failure by alternated stress due to such deformations.
