Abstract

Novel HIV-1 eradication strategies have arisen due to a deeper understanding of the nature of HIV-1 persistence in patients taking highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). In this review we discuss current approaches and challenges to HIV-1 eradication in the HAART era, the limitations of HAART, characteristics of the latent reservoir and the rationale for research targeting HIV-1 eradication. © 2012 Tanvir FA, et al.
