Abstract

The article focuses on a study conducted by Michael Meaney, professor at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute in Montreal, Quebec, and colleagues which found that people who experienced stress early in life can have-long physiological and behavioral consequences. The findings were based on humans who suffered abuse as children. Moreover, it revealed that epigenetic changes in humans may be a significant mechanism by which environmental exposures cause long-lasting behavior change.
