Abstract

A hypothesis based on optimal foraging considerations was the most consistent with the result that an increase in feeding rate occurs more quickly than a decrease. Overall, results of experiments suggest that feeding rate responses are gradual and variable. This delay represents a temporary decoupling of sediment dynamics and feeding on a time scale of minutes to hours. -from Author
