Abstract
Objective: Introduces a research about the collection of the National Archives as a Brazilian bibliographic heritage. Aims to discuss how the heritage category can be applied to the collection of a file's library, in this case the library of the National Archives. It shows that some institutions neglect some items in their collections, assigning value only to books considered hypothetically rare. Methods: It was developed from bibliographic and documentary research using the social research method with a qualitative approach of theoretical and exploratory nature. In this way, it presents the historiography of the institution and its library, outlines an overview of heritage and its developments to propose how the category of heritage can be applied in the library of the National Archives. Results: Based on the concepts of bibliographic and documentary heritage, it is suggested that the library and the institution recognize as a bibliographic heritage a given collection of Archivology and books published by the institution itself and some books considered rare. Conclusions: This paper brings a perspective on the collection of the National Archives library, which has an invaluable value and needs to be preserved. Thus, it highlights the relevance of studies and reflections regarding the collections that can be considered bibliographic heritage, because, in this case, they tell part of the history of Archivology, the institution and the country.
