Abstract

We have experimentally demonstrated the dynamic equalization of three WDM channels by using a polarization-independent passive wavelength demultiplexer, a parallel array of AO modulators, and a dynamic feedback control circuit. This module actively equalizes the power differential from >10 dB to within 1 dB of three channels spanning a range of 8 nm. This module can respond faster than 0.1 μs. After 1000 km of transmission within a recirculating fiber loop, three channels remain equalized by the dynamic module. This module can accommodate small or large channel spacings commensurate with the different channels allowable into the wavelength demultiplexer.
