Abstract
This paper discusses the medical home visit based on research carried out in the municipality of Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina (Southern Brazil), in the context of the Family Health Strategy. The main objective was to understand how the homevisit impacts on medical practice, regarding changes in the quality of the interaction between the professional, the patient and his family. Qualitative methodology was adopted along with triangulation techniques, which combined interviews, participant observation and the reading of documents. It was noticed that the home visit encourages interaction by promoting communication oriented towards mutual understanding. Thus, the professional can strive to have technical efficiency (technical success) combined with the understanding and focus on projects of happiness of patients and family members (practical success).
