Abstract
Postural education in sport could favour the use of posturo-gravitational information to code body orientation in space. Moreover, sport postural education could have consequences for the use and the selection of spatial frame reference. High level sports activities, like taekwondo training, submit athletes to difficult postural and spatial constraints. Therefore, they should made less error of verticality appreciation than other physically active subjects. Many studies of spatial orientation used the Rod and Frame Test (RFT): test of dependence in a roll tilted visual field. In sports studies, only a single value of tilted frame was typically used. If a link exists between postural subjects expertise and their visual field-independence, experts in equilibration should be less influenced by a large frame tilt, too much taken away from practicable postural conditions. We used tilted frame of 0 °, 8 °, 18 ° and 28 ° to compare Taekwondo experts to other physically active subjects. A single value of tilted frame seems insufficient to characterize an individual or a group. Taekwondo experts have globally a greater visual field-dependence than the other physically active subjects, and male taekwondo expert were less influenced by important tilted frame.
