APENDISITIS AKUT PADA MASA PANDEMI COVID-19: SEBUAH LAPORAN KASUS

Abstract

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix vermicularis, and is the most common cause of acute abdomen in children and adults. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic which has special procedures in carrying out operative actions. The authors aim to report cases of acute appendicitis in young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our case report is a 28-year-old man who came to the emergency department of Kasih Ibu Hospital, Kedonganan with the chief complaint of pain in the lower right abdomen for 4 days accompanied by fever and difficulty in defecation. Physical examination findings obtained vital signs within normal limits, but body temperature was 38.1oC, tenderness was obtained in the right inguinal region and McBurney sign (+), Rovsing sign (-), Abdurator sign (-), Psoas sign (+). Complete blood count examination revealed leukocytosis and mild anemia, and an abdominal ultrasound examination revealed acute appendicitis. Based on the Alvarado score obtained 7 and Ripasa score of 9.5 which means probable acute appendicitis. Initial management of painkillers and antibiotics was followed by definitive management, namely appendectomy. After the treatment was carried out the control with the final condition of the patient was good and without complaints.
