Abstract

Adolescents may be conformist or nonconformist, libertarian or authoritarian, irascible or rather zen (etc.), but they can't elude moral reflection. "Moral" means here the personal position about social norms, either in daily social interactions or in ideological thinking about institutional order. Recently, research on moral development was greatly diversified. The cognitive approach was renewed and completed by taking into account emotions. Factors of risk and protection were also considered. Evidence in this field may be of main interest for educators and therapists. Environmental appeal to prompt constructive reactions will be preferred to behavioral control and constraints.
