Abstract
This research paper explored the economic potential of ubiquitous computing, particularly the Internet of Things (IoT), within Malaysia’s public transportation sector. It examines how the integration of IoT, AI, and data analytics can address the current digital challenges within the sector, which include service quality, connectivity limitations, real-time information gaps, multiple ticketing systems, and the integration of various transportation modes. Ubiquitous computing solutions, encompassing contactless payments, sensor-based real-time data, and IoT-driven smart systems, are explored as methods to boost efficiency, enhance passenger experience, and positively impact the economy. The paper also touches on the ethical considerations, infrastructure needs, and economic opportunities associated with IoT in various sectors. Overall, it focuses on the transformative potential of ubiquitous computing in Malaysia’s journey toward economic growth and technological advancement.
