Abstract

The author discusses the antiretroviral therapy (ART) programme of public sector in South Africa, wherein an estimated two million of South Africans had started the program by 2012. Topics discussed include the efforts of the country in preventing mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), the impact of former President Thabo Mbeki's view on AIDS and HIV, and the role of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in urging the government to implement antiretrovirals (ARVs) for PMTCT.
