Abstract

Cognitive dysfunction is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with aging that leads to a decline in higher encephalic functions, including those involved in memory and learning. Cognitive deterioration is a gradual process, and treatment within the early stages is therefore recommended. When considering treatment options of age-related behavioral disorders associated with progressive degenerative disease of the central nervous system, there are three main therapeutic approaches to consider: behavioral therapy (including environmental modification), nutritional support and pharmacological therapy.
