Abstract

• Species-specific diagnosis of fungal infections remains a challenge but could lead to more effective treatments. • Although microarray and bead-based technologies are a promising alternative approach for diagnosing fungal infections, their high costs and technical hurdles are retarding progress toward their being widely adopted. • Suspended bead arrays offers several benefits over similar array-based diagnostic technologies, including quicker results, lower costs, greater flexibility in design, and higher throughput; however, this technology needs to be validated before it is ready for use as a routine fungal diagnostic tool.
