Abstract

Mg was evaporated onto GI substrate. With annealing followed, Zn-Mg alloy coating was acquired. Microstructure and chemical element of Zn-Mg alloy coatings were analyzed by SEM and EDS respectively. Anti-corrosion performance of Zn-Mg alloy coatings was studied by salt spray test (SST) and electrochemical test. Alloy phases and corrosion products were inspected by XRD. Study showed that Zn-Mg alloy phase was mainly MgZn2 , MgZn, Mg2Zn11 and Mg7Zn3. The alloy coatings had excellent corrosion resistance on coating surfaces and even at cut edges. Compared with GI, Zn-Mg alloy coatings have lower Icorr current and bigger polarization resistance. And its corrosion products are more compact.
