ASSOCIAÇÃO ENTRE CARACTERÍSTICAS SOCIODEMOGRÁFICAS E FREQUÊNCIA DE USO DE ÁLCOOL POR GESTANTES

Abstract

Objetivo: verificar a associação entre as características sociodemográficas e a frequência de uso de álcool em gestantes atendidas em uma maternidade pública de Salvador. Método: estudo transversal com 268 gestantes, desenvolvido entre julho e dezembro de 2013. Resultados: dentre as gestantes usuárias de álcool, 57,1% tinham idade entre 20 e 29 anos, 92,1% eram da raça negra, 36,9% eram da religião católica, 51,6% viviam em união estável, 68,7% concluíram o ensino médio e 56,7% estavam empregadas. Foram identificadas associações estatisticamente significantes entre a categoria de frequência de uso de álcool e as variáveis faixa etária (p=0,03) e religião (p=0,041). Conclusão: os dados sinalizaram que a idade e a religião influenciam na frequência de uso de álcool em gestantes, visto que podem atuar como fatores de risco ou de proteção à saúde da mulher. Objective: to verify the association between socio-demographic characteristics and the frequency of alcohol use by pregnant women at a public maternity in the city of Salvador. Method: a cross-sectional study performed with 268 pregnant women, between the months of July and December 2013. Results: among the pregnant women who were users of alcohol, 57,1% were of ages 20 to 29, 92,1% were black, 36,9% were catholic, 51,6% were in a common-law marriage, 68,7% concluded high school, and 56,7% were employed. Statistically significant associations were identified between categories of frequency of alcohol use and age group (p=0.03) and religion (p=0.041) variables. Conclusion: the data indicated that age and religion influenced in the frequency of alcohol consumption by pregnant women, once these act as risk factors or of protection to the health of women.
