Abstract

In vivo carbonic anhydrase catalyses the interconversion of carbon dioxide and bicarbonate at a rate which is one of the fastest known for enzyme catalysis. The state of the art and science of carbonic anhydrase research is reviewed and a mechanism for this catalysis proposed.
