Abstract

On the basis of rings formed on the surface of centrum of vertebrae, ages of 2 species of yellow tail and scad were determined as follows. (1) Yellow tail'seriola quinqueradiata (T. & S.): ln(cm) = 6·3, rn (mm)’1·6, where r1 = 51, r3 = 74, r2 = 9 4 and r4 = 113. (2) Yellow tail'seriola aureovitiata (T. & S.): ln = 5·2 rn+06, where r1 = 5·1, r2 = 8·4, r3 = 11·5 and r4 = 14·0. (3) Scad’Trachurus japonicus (T. & S.): Zn=3′6, j-h + 2′3, where r1 = 2’0, r2=31, r, =4′3 and U = 54. In cm is the body-length of the n-aged fish when the n-th ring, of which the radius is rn mm, is completed. © 1938, The Japanese Society of Fisheries Science. All rights reserved.
