Abstract
The comprehension of different forms of social organization of the past was always the main goal of archaeological researches, however inferences on this respect were never consensually made. In the present paper, we discuss how archaeological remains were used for the understanding of social organization forms in the Amazon along time, pointing out the different concepts related to social differentiation forms, mainly approaches such as stratification and hierarchy.
