Abstract

This chapter looks into group interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) for adolescents in Nepal. Guided by the ecological validity framework, adaptations were made related to the domains of context, persons, treatment goals, methods, concepts, language, metaphors, content, and developmental stage. The major barriers and facilitators of IPT's implementation range among caregivers, stigma, managing child protection issues and suicidality, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter then considers a case example that illustrates how group IPT was used to address grief in an adolescent boy with depression. It suggests school-based psychoeducation as one of the key recommendations for future work in Nepal.
