Abstract
This paper describes the design, implementation, and testing of the first phase of the terrain model implemented in the WellProdSim social simulator. This social simulator will be oriented at first instance to analyze the productivity and social well-being of the Montes de Maria region in Colombia. The terrain control module supports the simulation of social phenomena such as communication, cooperation, and human behavior, beliefs, and emotions. For these purposes, the proposed terrain model includes functions to model both land use and vegetation growth, whilst considering the region’s geographical characteristics and weather conditions. The effects of the behavior of peasants in their social and productive context are also considered. In the near future, the terrain model will be integrated within a BDI emotional agents module that will represent peasants and other social actors in order to make the simulator more realistic in the representation of the human decision-making process.
