Abstract

Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis is a rare lung disease characterized by alveolar accumulation of surfactant components for various reasons. About 500 cases have been reported in the literature since it was first described. Due to the low prevalence of this disease, no clear recommendations for diagnosis and treatment are available. The article gives an overview of diagnostic and treatment options.
