Online gambling in Spain and sports betting: Young people as new profiles with ludopathy

Abstract

A research study is carried out at the ACOJER Rehabilitation Center in Córdoba (Spain), on changes in gambling addiction habits in young people between 18-30 years old, from 2015 to the present. Objective. Analyze the new profiles of gambling in young people and the generation of problems associated with online sports betting. Method. Different document review techniques were used to analyze 13 variables through: Clinical history; SOGS; Host file; ALEA and PASDA digital support, among others. Results. There is a change in player profiles; an increase in online sports betting; it bets more making use of electronic devices connected to the internet; debts are contracted online; proliferation of online betting shops; and in summary, important social, psychological and deficit family relationships are being generated. Conclusions. There has been a change in gambling habits in young people between 18-30 years old towards online gambling through the Internet and Apps.
