Abstract

This study discusses the use of metaphors contained in good morning memes on social media. The problem studied is the types and purposes of writing memes in good morning greetings on social media. This research is a type of qualitative research whose data is sourced from social media, including WhatsApp and Facebook. Data were collected using the documentation method. The results of this study are the types of metaphors that are generally found in good morning greeting memes, among others; (1) anthropomorphic metaphors that use nature as a comparison with humans, including plants, mountains, seeds, light, and light; (2) animal metaphors that use animals as comparisons with humans, including birds, bees, and flies; (3) the metaphor of the structure of daily activities describes human traits that are far from gratitude, peace, and pride; (4) inanimate metaphor refers to a fixed form, for example, chest; (5) standard metaphor refers to a general form, for example, happiness cannot be separated from gratitude; and (6) creative metaphors are metaphors that are produced from the creativity of speakers, for example comparing God or God's hand with a painter. The purpose of using metaphors in good morning memes is to advise, encourage, invite gratitude, pray, and thank God. Keyword:
