Abstract

Linz-Donawitz Sludge (LDS) are the fine solid particles recovered after wet cleaning of the gas emerging from LD convertors during steel making. The present work includes processing of polypropylene composites filled with different proportions of LDS by compression moulding technique. Solid particle erosion wear trials are performed under different test conditions as per ASTM G 76 following a design of experiment approach based on Taguchi's Orthogonal Arrays. This parametric analysis reveals that the filler content and the impact velocity are the most significant factors affecting the erosion wear characteristics of these composites.
