Abstract
A new simple, accurate, precise, rapid and selective high-performance thin-layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method has been developed for simultaneous determination of ramipril and valsartan in capsules. Identification and determination were performed on 10 cm × 10 cm aluminum-backed TLC plates, coated with 0.2 mm layers of silica gel 60 F254, previously washed with methanol using ethyl acetate : chloroform: glacial acetic acid, (8:2:0.2, v/v) as mobile phase. Detection was carried out densitometrically using UV detector at 220 nm. The Rf values were 0.15 for ramipril and 0.49 for valsartan. The linear response for ramipril and valsartan was observed over 800 – 4000 ng/spot (r = 0.9933) and 800 – 4000 ng/spot (r = 0.9906), respectively. The recovery was found to be % and % for ramipril and valsartan, respectively. The suitability of this HPTLC method for quantitative determination of these compounds is proved by validation in accordance with the requirements of ICH Guidelines. © 2011 IGJPS. All rights reserved
