Abstract

Building simulation activities in different design stages are reviewed and discussed. This paper categorized the major purposes of building energy simulation with various modeling purposes for informed decisions at different design stages. Limitations and challenges in building performance simulation are analysed. From the practitioner point view for building designers and consultants, this paper proposed a holistic design and simulation strategy aiming for improvement or solutions in building simulation consulting, to better refine the design and consulting within the integrated design practice process for improving building energy performance in design, operation and management as the ultimate goal.
