Study of community participation in community-based clean water distribution movement in Semarang City

Abstract

The study analyzed the involvement of residents in a community-driven clean water distribution initiative in RW 07 Srondol Wetan Urban Village, Banyumanik Sub-district, Semarang City. The study aims to determine the level of resident participation in the clean water distribution program, analyze the program's effectiveness, and identify factors influencing community engagement. The research methodology included questionnaire surveys, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation. The results show that community participation in the program had not been very high, partly due to the introduction of the new PAMSIMAS program in 2022. However, the program was considered effective in improving access to clean water and the quality of life in the community. Factors influencing participation include awareness of the importance of clean water, strong local leadership, and support from government and non-government organizations. The research concluded that resident participation is pivotal for the success of community-based clean water delivery programs and recommends bolstering community capacity and fostering ongoing collaboration among various stakeholders.
