Abstract

Business intelligence (BI) is a collection of softw ar e and ser vices to conver t facts into actionable obser vations. These obser vations can impact str ategic and tactical business decisions of an enter pr ise. BI can pr ovide user s w ith exhaustive intelligence about the state of the business w ith the assistance of tools w hich can access and scr utinize data sets and deliver pinpointing findings in repor ts and summar ies etc. The t echnology has consider ably advanced in the ar ea of infor mation systems thr ough the evolvement of DSS (Decision Suppor t Systems) to EIS (Executive Infor mation Systems) to Business Intelligence systems. ETL (Extr act, Tr an sfor m, and Load) is a pr ocedur e of pulling out data fr om var ious data sour ces and pr ocessing them accor ding to business calculations and tr ansfer r ing the r efor med data into a data w ar ehouse. ETL function lies at the cor e of Business Intelligence systems because of the in-depth analytics data it pr ovides.
