Abstract

The smart prepaid meters are in accordance with the Electricity Company of Ghana's (ECG) new Meter Management System (MMS), which integrates all smart meters into a single platform, allowing consumers to purchase prepaid credit from anywhere in the nation and allowing the company to remotely monitor the meters. This article identifies the various implementation and usage challenges associated with the current smart metering system in Ghana. The paper also proposes some mitigation techniques to overcome the underlined challenges. General Terms Electricity Company of Ghana, Roaming, Smart metering system, smart prepaid meters.
