Abstract

Playing (yeast) laser tag: Laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (LDI-MS) with nanopost arrays (NAPA, see scheme) was shown to quantitatively analyze trace amounts of intracellular metabolites from single cells of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker's yeast). The upregulation and downregulation of metabolites because of external stress (such as oxidative stress) are also observed, even at the single-cell level. Copyright © 2013 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
