Abstract

The layering transition of 1-undecanol films (C11OH) confined between atomically smooth back-silvered mica surfaces was experimentally studied using multiple beam interferometry and video microscopy. All experiments were performed at room temperature (22 ± 1°C). Results of the study constitute the first direct investigation of a layering transition in two dimensions.
