Abstract

In this study, the efficiency and sensitivity of active radon cell coated with iodine-activated ZnS was experimentally investigated. The emission and scintillation properties of the scintillator were studied. It has been observed that all the samples showed one photoluminescence (PL) emission peak at 462 nm. The efficiency of the cell has been determined by pylon electronics company, Ottawa, Canada. It is found that, the efficiency of the radon cell is equal to 24.51 ± 0.35%. The nanostructured scintillator synthesis and characterization, as well as the calibration and application of radon cell, were also comprehensively analyzed. The outcome of the present work reveals that the cell might be used for direct radon gas detection.
