Abstract

Chapter 2 explores the political, social, and geographical context of conflict and displacement in Colombia. It begins with a brief history of the country's conflict since gaining independence in the 19th century and examines recent hopes for progress towards peace. This chapter then delves into the complexity of violence in Colombia, drawing on insights from the women co-researchers involved in the project. It focuses on their experiences of gendered violence, which are both multiple and layered. Additionally, this chapter highlights the enduring impact of trauma in perpetuating these experiences, while also shedding light on the women's resistance and activism in striving for better futures.
