Abstract

Resumo: Enchentes, deslizamentos, secas, tornados, furacões. Eventosclimáticos não são novidades, mas a frequência entre eles tem aumentado,assim como sua potência e isso se deve às mudanças do clima. A falta de açãopolítica, a desinformação da população, bem como um modelo de desenvolvimentocom índices de consumo exagerado e níveis de pobreza extremos tornaas consequências desses fenômenos mais graves. Um mundo que carece deética ambiental deteriora as bases da vida, nas suas diferentes formas. Nessecontexto, apresentam-se desafios para as ciências, também para a teologia, nabusca de uma nova espiritualidade na relação do ser humano com a Criação.Abstract: Floods, mud slides, dry seasons, tornados, and hurricanes are wellknown phenomena in nature. However, their impact on the climate and theresulting havoc in wide areas have recently on a world wide scale. The lack ofa concentrated effort by the government of various countries, the disregard ofsupplying the citizens with needed information, the option of a model of developmentwith high indices of consumer-goods with no regard to aggravated levelsof poverty are leading to severe consequences of all these phenomena. Onereminder of a menacing situation awaiting the world which disregards ethicsconcerning the environment needed to protect the very bases of life in all thedifferent forms. In this context science and theology are faced with challengesto search for new tasks and create conditions for spiritual life in relationship withthe human being and the Creation.
