Abstract

The pollinators are among the essential components for the functioning of ecosystems in general. In agriculture, Crop Associated Biodiversity (CAB) is an important part of agricultural ecosystems, and the pollinators are one of the main components. However, pesticides used in modern agriculture have caused a very negative impact on the diversity and quantity of pollinators in agricultural areas and contributed to low productivity in several crops. The present paper reviews the available literature about the lethal effects on pollinators of agricultural pesticides authorized for use in Brazil on pollinators, discusses the different impacts of formulations and use in Brazilian ecosystems and suggest best management practices in order to minimize the negative effects and rationalize the use of pesticides in the agricultural ecosystems in Brazil.
