In addition to a redox flow battery based on anolyte and catholyte, the article also presents various hybrid flow batteries, which all have the methodological advantage that their battery charge level can be indicated by their colour. On the one hand, the redox-flow-cell can be used in chemistry class to discuss the energy storage system's operating principle, and on the other hand, hybrid flow batteries using electrolytes based on supermarket products can provide a motivating introduction to the subject of stationary energy storage systems. These “everyday chemicals” create a life-world reference for the learners in the classroom, which can lead to a further increase in the popularity of chemistry teaching.
