Abstract

A novel pulse septum magnet with low outgassing rate, which was directly installed in the uhv chamber of the 800 MeV electron storage ring at HESYRL, is described in this paper. The septum magnet was manufactured from 0.6 mm thick steel sheet with the surface coated by pure ceramic powder using a special technology. After that, its outgassing rate was not only significantly reduced, but also the material has some absorption capacity after baking. The pressure of the vacuum chamber, in which the pulse septum magnet with the ceramic coating was installed, was less than 8 × 10-10 mbar after baking and pumping for 48 hours. © 1990.
