Abstract
The recently-announced Inquiry on Federal Water Policy presents an opportunity for thorough review and reform of the federal government’s approaches to Its responsibilities for water management In Canada. By means of publications, public hearings across the country, and other activities the Inquiry can be expected to improve public awareness of water problems and of needed improvements in water policy. The growing and competing demands on water suggest the need for a more comprehensive approach to water management, with systematic consideration given not only to Industrial and commercial values but also to aesthetic and environmental benefits and the tradeoffs among them. This Implies a considerable change from our traditionally fragmented approach to water resource development in Canada. © 1984 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
