Abstract

[...] the results obtained by running our models without desalination plants imply that desalination on the Mediterranean coast of Israel and Palestine is currently not an efficient technology except in times of major drought. [...] the apparent crisis caused by an Israeli abrogation of a cooperative water treaty could be overcome by Palestinian pumping of Mountain Aquifer water beyond the amounts permitted by the water treaty, doing so until the needed desalination facilities can be built.
