Abstract
The purpose of this study is to describe how the use of digital manufacturing (DM) by project-based learning (PBL) develops disciplinary competencies linked to the application of this technology. Two tools are used for collecting information: 1) quantitative evaluation of attitudes towards digital manufacturing products and 2) academic practices in behavioral, affective, and cognitive dimensions. The sample is composed of 30 industrial design undergraduate students at the Universidad Javeriana (Colombia). The results show that 80% of the students agreed that incorporating DM to PBL has a positive influence on method design and product development. It is concluded that DM linked to PBL pedagogical strategy is a disruptive learning experience that facilitates students practice in developing a product with freedom and with unrestricted exploration of form and function.
