Abstract

The PIP scandal broke last year: thousands of women had received substandard breast implants that contained industrial-grade gel and were liable to leak. What were the risks? Should the implants be removed? Amid huge public outcry, David Spiegelhalter, Stuart Knight and Tony Sant were asked urgently to report. © 2012 The Royal Statistical Society.
