Abstract

3D bioprinting is a cutting-edge technology that has the potential to fabricate functional tissues and organs in three dimensions. Although no organ has yet been successfully printed and implanted in the human body, recent research developments show the possibility of printing a functional organ to replace the failure organ. If this technology succeeds in producing printed and implanted organs in the human body, then the organ shortage can be overcome. The manufacturing of this technology is being developed. This cost is most likely to be transferred to the end user, which is the organ recipient, which means the occurrence of financial transactions between related parties. There is a question about the status of the financial transaction and whether it complies with Shariah law or not. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the Islamic law perspective about 3D organ printing trading. In order to achieve this objective, the study has used qualitative methods by analyzing documents thematically from academic journals and either classical or contemporary fiqh books. The findings show that each contract may differ from one to another resulting to the different Islamic ruling. This result is expected to guide industry players, in addition to other research technology references, to develop a Shariah-compliant 3D bioprinting model framework.
